Police: Video shows woman beating pair with metal pole

A woman accused of killing a person and critically injuring another this week was captured on surveillance video beating them with a metal pole, according to a Metro Police arrest report.

Vanessa Harvey, 47, was arrested Monday in the 600 block of Owens Avenue shortly after the unprovoked attack, police said.

Police received multiple reports of two people on the ground and bleeding near the intersection of Owens and H Street, according to the report.

Officers found a woman, Machika Goodjoint, lying near a driveway with a head injury, police said. A man, Andre Dexter, was found nearby with similar injuries, police said.

Medics declared Goodjoint dead at the scene, police said. Dexter was taken to University Medical Center, but he was “intubated, unconscious and unable to provide a statement” about what happened, the police report said.

Harvey, who was located a short distance from the victims, was sitting on a piece of metal that appeared to have blood on it, police said. She was taken into custody but refused to identify herself and was uncooperative, police said.

Detectives obtained surveillance footage from a nearby building that showed Goodjoint and Dexter walking east on a sidewalk, police said. They can be seen pointing toward “something or someone” in a parking lot, police said.

The video shows Harvey walking toward them and an ensuing struggle, police said. She used a long pole or piece of metal to hit Goodjoint and Dexter multiple times, police said.

Harvey was booked at the Clark County Detention Center on counts of open murder and attempted murder, according to booking logs.
