Metro IDs officers involved in northwest Vegas shooting

Metro Police on Friday identified two officers involved in a police shooting that occurred earlier this week in the northwest valley.

Sgt. Donald Graham, 59, and Officer Amelia Lukac, 40, have been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of a review of the incident, police said in a release. Graham has been with Metro since 1998 and Luac was hired by the department in 2004. Both were assigned to the Northwest Area Command Community Policing Division.

Police on Wednesday responded to a robbery call at 11:27 a.m., Cpt. Carlos Hank said at a briefing earlier this week. Investigators determined that a suspect — who has still not been identified — had committed or attempted to commit multiple robberies, and were able to track the suspect to the area of Cheyenne Avenue and Tenaya Way.

Once stopped, the suspect got out of his vehicle and pulled out a handgun, Hank said. Officers fired and struck the suspect, who was transported to a nearby hospital and died later that day.
