Man shot, killed near downtown Las Vegas; suspect flees

Metro Police are seeking a suspect after a man was fatally shot inside an apartment near downtown Las Vegas today, according to homicide Lt. Ray Spencer.

Police responded at about 2:30 p.m. to reports of shots fired in the 2700 block of East Bonanza Road near Eastern Avenue, Spencer told reporters at a briefing. Responding officers found a man in his late 40s suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and transported him to University Medical Center where he later died.

Police say the victim was inside the apartment with several others when a man arrived at the scene. The victim and suspect got into an argument that evolved into a physical altercation before the suspect ultimately pulled out a handgun and shot the victim “multiple” times before fleeing out the back window, Spencer said. Police provided no other description of the suspect.

The witnesses inside the apartment all fled prior to police arrival, Spencer said. He added the suspect and victim had “somewhat of an ongoing dispute,” but warned the suspect should be considered armed.

The matter remains under investigation, Spencer said.
