Police: Las Vegas man fatally stabs boyfriend

A Las Vegas man was arrested last week for allegedly stabbing and killing his boyfriend, according to a Metro Police report.

Anthony Cardenas, 27, was booked Thursday into the Clark County Detention Center for open murder with a deadly weapon, after video surveillance reviewed by police showed him charging at and stabbing his boyfriend, Raul Campos, with a large kitchen knife.

Officers responded about 10 a.m. to the 3100 block of St. Rose Parkway to a call from Cardenas, who claimed his boyfriend had been stabbed by an “unknown suspect,” according to the report. Campos, with a severe laceration to his chest, was transported to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Cardenas told police that Campos, whom he had been dating for 10 years, lived in California and had arrived at his apartment earlier that morning, according to the report.

After briefly leaving the apartment to get food — during which time Campos allegedly caused a scene at a restaurant and hit Cardenas multiple times — they returned to the apartment and continued arguing.

Cardenas, who police claim in the report changed his statements repeatedly, initially said that Campos left the apartment for 15 minutes and returned having been stabbed.

When asked several times by police if he stabbed Campos, Cardenas said that he would never stab his boyfriend, and “if he were going to stab Campos, it would have been 10 years ago when they started dating,” according to the report.

An acquaintance of Cardenas’ provided police with surveillance video of the apartment, which allegedly shows Campos exiting the apartment, then turning around as Cardenas charges him with a kitchen knife, “swinging it back and forth,” and apparently stabbing him, police claim.

Campos could also repeatedly be heard saying the words, “stab me,” as he backs out of the apartment in the video, police claim.
