Metro: Suspect in custody after barricade situation in central Vegas

Las Vegas police this afternoon arrested a man after he had barricaded himself at a residence in the central valley.

Metro Police received a call just after 12:30 p.m. and responded to reports of a man with a gun in the 2800 block of East Harris Avenue, near Eastern Avenue and Bonanza Road.

Both SWAT and crisis negotiation units responded, and the man surrendered without incident just before 3 p.m., Capt. Carlos Hank said.

No injuries were reported and traffic on Eastern and Bonanza are expected to reopen later this afternoon, Hank said.

Officers showed “tremendous restraint” after the suspect opened fire and instead chose to de-escalate the situation, Hank said.

The incident remains under investigation and details of the man in custody were not released, but Hank said the incident was not connected to the shooting reported earlier this morning in the 900 block of East Sahara Avenue that left 14 people shot.
