Las Vegas suspect charged in attack that resulted in woman’s death

A Las Vegas woman was arrested last month for the slaying of another woman who she allegedly beat over the head with a rake before riding away on a bicycle, according to a Metro Police arrest report.

Bianca Robinson, 27, was taken into custody Oct. 24 in connection to the death of 53-year-old Marcia Averett a few days earlier.

Las Vegas Fire and Rescue initially located Averett, who was unconscious and suffering from obvious head trauma after the incident Sept. 30 in the area of Bruce and Fremont streets, the arrest report says. She died nearly a month later on Oct. 20.

Averett’s husband told police Sept. 30 that his wife had informed him earlier in the day she had been hit on the head with a rake by an unknown woman.

Investigators found blood at the alleged crime scene on 16th Street and Marlin Avenue, and several witnesses claimed they saw Averett get struck in the head with a large rake by a woman who then rode away on a bicycle, the report said.

One witness, who is identified in the arrest report as a friend of Averett’s, told police she saw a woman approach on a bicycle carrying a green rake, strike Averett over the head several times, then ride away.

Witnesses told police the woman who attacked Averett was known to frequent the area on her blue bicycle and was named “Bianca,” and that she had sometimes been seen exiting apartments near the crime scene. An apartment manager revealed that the suspect, identified as Robinson, lived in one of the complex’s units.

Residents at the apartments described Robinson to police as “possibly having psychiatric problems,” the report said.

A search of Robinson’s apartment led Metro detectives to recover the blue bicycle allegedly used in the attack on Averett, the report said. In an interview with police, she admitted to riding the bike but claimed to have no memory of the Sept. 30 event in connection to Averett’s injuries.

Robinson has been charged with one count of open murder, according to court records.
