A Las Vegas man was arrested Monday after allegedly trying to stab a woman and then kidnapping her and three children at knifepoint, according to Mesquite Police.

Justin Junius Carter, 34, has been charged with four counts of second-degree kidnapping in violation of extended protection order, one count of domestic battery with the use of a deadly weapon, four counts of violation of an extended protection order, one count of attempted sexual assault, one of attempted murder, one of coercion with use of a deadly weapon and two counts of resisting arrest.

Police in Mesquite received a call from a woman just after midnight on Monday, speaking quietly and saying she was in a moving vehicle and needed help, but could not provide many details.

Police determined her location and stopped the vehicle, finding the woman and the three children. They detained and eventually arrested the male driver after learning he had attempted to stab the woman in Las Vegas before kidnapping her and the children.

“The bravery of this woman and her children cannot be overstated,” Mesquite Police Chief MaQuade Chesley said in a statement. “They maintained their composure, and she bravely created a plan in her head to call for help as soon as she could.”
