Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak speaks during the Democrats election day party on midterm Election Day Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2022.

Former Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak is returning to his midwest roots.

Sisolak is joining a slate of other former policymakers and political journalists as Pritzker Fellows at the University of Chicago Institute of Politics, the school announced today.

Each quarter, the program recruits people from around the world for “deep dives into the most pressing issues of the day,” according to a release announcing the fellowship class.

Joining Sisolak, a Democrat, is one-time presidential hopeful and former U.S. Rep. Beto O’Rourke, D-Texas, as well as former congressmen Tim Rya, D-Ohio, and Peter Meijer, R-Mich.

The class is rounded out by Robin Sue Simmons, a former Evanston, Ill., alderwoman; Adrian Perkins, former mayor of Shreveport, La.; Heather Cherone, a Chicago-based political reporter; and Matthew Yglesias, a columnist and political analyst.

Sisolak, born in Milwaukee, Wis., will lead seminars about the challenges and opportunities leading Nevada amid the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the school’s website.

He will also lead sessions on addressing climate change and improving public education.

While on campus, fellows lead weekly discussions on issues of local, national and international importance, according to the website. The 75-minute, off-the-record discussions are student-only and take place on the University of Chicago campus.

Sisolak couldn’t immediately be reached for comment. Since losing his bid for reelection in November to former Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo, Sisolak has not given media interviews. He lost to Lombardo, a Republican, by roughly 15,000 votes, or 1.5 percentage points.
