Pedestrian dead one week after DUI crash in east Las Vegas

A Las Vegas man has died from injuries sustained from being struck by a car driven by an impaired motorist, according to Metro Police.

The pedestrian was crossing Nellis Boulevard south of Charleston Boulevard about 5:50 p.m. Jan. 21, when he entered the path of travel of a southbound sedan. The sedan struck the pedestrian, who was projected further south.

He was transported to Sunrise Hospital in critical condition, and police say they were notified of his death Thursday.

The driver of the sedan, 49-year-old Shermonique Batiste, remained at the scene and displayed signs of impairment consistent with marijuana usage, police said.

Batiste was booked into the Clark County Detention Center and has been charged with reckless driving resulting in death or substantial bodily harm, DUI and operation of a vehicle with expired regulation or plates, according to county records.
