Dale Jr. billboard controversy

Texas Motor Speedway President Eddie Gossage is a very creative guy. His racetrack produced a recent series of billboards promoting the Sprint Cup race in April. Four of these billboards resulted in the sister of Dale Earnhardt, Kelly Earnhardt Elledge, asking for the signs to be changed. The signs in question showed an image of Dale Jr. with the wording “Reason #88:Step-Mom.” All of the signs included images of drivers with creative slogans. One of these signs showed a grinning Tony Stewart with “Reason #20:Road Rage!”

Frankly, I think the Dale Jr. billboards were hilarious. And if anyone thinks the signs were pushing the envelope of what’s appropriate, just remember this: The sign didn’t tell us anything we didn’t already know. Dale Jr. has been saying basically the same thing for several months and the frosty relationship between Dale Jr. and his stepmother has been written about extensively.

Like I said, it takes a creative mind to think up something like this. I just hope Mr. Gossage doesn’t know how to draw.
