Kurt vs. Tony

There once was a scuffle between a reporter and a photographer in the newsroom of my newspaper. It basically amounted to some yelling, pushing and shoving. One punch was thrown--which missed its target and instead shattered a large glass section of a wall. The managing editor sent the two employees home and docked them a day’s pay.

A short time later the executive editor returned from lunch and was informed by the managing editor about the fight and the wild punch. The executive editor immediately summoned the two employees back to work and stated that, if anything, they should be docked a day’s pay for not knowing how to fight.

That’s how I feel about the pit road fender-banging incident between Kurt Busch and Tony Stewart during the Bud Shootout practice on Friday. After the two wrecked on the track, an angry Kurt sideswiped the #20 on the entrance to pit road. Should NASCAR penalize Kurt for using his car to communicate with Tony? Absolutely not! NASCAR should penalize Kurt for not getting out of his car and communicating with Tony face to face.
