NASCAR officials accused of racism, sexism

The NASCAR blog world is abuzz with the news that a NASCAR technical inspector has filed a $225 million sexual and racial harassment lawsuit against the sanctioning body. Inspector Mauricia Grant, the first black female technical inspector to work for NASCAR, contends that co-workers called her racist names and used racial epithets.

I’m sure there will be many opinions flying around the Internet about these allegations, but it’s possible that no one knows for sure what really happened except for Grant and the co-workers who have been accused. Lacking an eyewitness who can testify, this whole case could boil down to a he-said, she-said situation. And, unfortunately, that could mean that we may never know the truth.

My guess is that the lawyers at NASCAR will want to make this thing go away before it gets to trial. NASCAR will want to avoid the media coverage and lengthy discussions about attitudes within the sport.

Regardless of what transpires, if NASCAR does have reason to believe that employees committed these ugly acts, then there is no place for those people in this sport.
