Silly Season gives Kurt Busch an opportunity

The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. It’s a tired cliche. But it’s one that sometimes applies to NASCAR.

When Kurt Busch parted ways with Jack Roush, I’m sure he was thinking that the pastures would be greener at the Penske camp. Brian Hilderbrand pointed out in a Bloggity post in April that while driving for Jack Roush, Busch averaged one victory every 13 races. In his career with Penske, Busch has averaged a win every 29 races. Kurt is currently 22nd in the standings and hasn’t been to victory lane in 29 races. In his four full seasons with Jack Roush, Kurt racked up 14 wins and one championship.

Kurt is a much better driver than his results at Penske suggest.

Silly Season has started and now may be the time for Busch to stared thinking about his options as rides become available. Although he has a contact with Penske though 2009, we all know that these contracts aren’t worth the paper they’re written on when one or both parties decide to call it quits.

Maybe it’s time Kurt put Richard Childress on speed dial.

I would also guess that it’s no fun seeing your brother rip up almost every track he comes to. If I had a brother whose cartoons were in The New York Times every week, I’d start wondering if I needed to make some changes.
