Democratic campaigns: Bitter but healthy

WASHINGTON -- At a press briefing today, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid was asked what he thinks of the continued sniping among the Democratic presidential candidates.

Reid, as he often does, simply deadpanned: “Makes me bitter.”

The joke got a chuckle from the press corps. Reid was referring to the fallout over Sen. Barack Obama having said middle class Americans are bitter the government hasn’t done more to help improve their economic conditions.

“This is all going to be over very soon,” Reid offered. “I think it’s been healthy for our country… healthy for our party.”

Exactly how will it be over soon, a reporter inquired – wondering, perhaps, if the majority leader had a solution that has eluded others in the Democratic Party for ending the contentious nominating season?

Reid, who has remained neutral in the Democratic race, simply smiled a bit, then took another question.
