The real reason Romney’s out?

WASHINGTON — Republican Mitt Romney’s string of primary losses, my colleague Michael Mishak writes expertly in today’s Sun stems from evangelical Christian voters unable to overcome his religious belief in Mormonism.

But after today’s news that Romney is suspending his campaign, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (also a Mormon who, like Romney, attended the funeral last week for church president Gordon Hinckley), offered this take:

“You know the reason I think he stopped his campaign?” Reid slyly told reporters when asked about it at a press conference this afternoon. “He met me in Salt Lake last Saturday. We hadn’t met until then. That was the beginning of the end for him.”
