The Good Fight at Wolfgang Puck’s

WASHINGTON -- The road out of Searchlight leads not only to the Capitol, but also to the swanky new Wolfgang Puck restaurant “The Source” at the just-opened Newseum. That's where Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid tonight celebrated the publication of his new autobiography.

Reid has been doing readings around town and will do more in Nevada in coming weeks, but this after-work fete for the “The Good Fight” filled two floors with a bit of the glitterati of Washington.

Senators showed up (I lost track after counting about a dozen Dems and a couple Republicans) as did a bunch of media types, including Bob Woodward of the Washington Post. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi stopped by too.

Nevada’s Sen. John Ensign offered a warm introduction, as well as a decent review of the book, saying it was a good read.

Reid took over from there, delivering a few choice words (with a hay-fever-challenged voice) about how his story is a reminder that anyone can make it this country.

Reid downed cough drops and signed copies of the book, and insisted he doesn’t really like these kinds of social events. But he seemed like he was having fun.

For a kid from Searchlight, it had to be an interesting night.

Bartenders served up drinks inspired by the book, waiters passed trays of tasty appetizers and a bunch of Hill reporters, staffers and a few lobbyists kept the party going as Reid and his wife, about two hours in, called it a night.
