Web site shutdown raises questions

A global Web site called Wikileaks has been ordered to cease operation after a Swiss-based bank filed a lawsuit against the Web site with the U.S. District Court in San Francisco. To date, this is the first Web site that has been shut down by the government. Some see this action as a first of many more to come that will chip away at the freedom of communication special to the Internet.

Wikileaks was a globally used, anonymous database designed so that people could expose the illegal and unethical actions of businesses, organizations and governments.

CNET and E-COMMERCE also have stories documenting the unprecedented ruling against the Internet.
