Gibbons Country’ wavers

The Reno Gazette-Journal has reported a marked decline in the the popularity of Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons in his "epicenter of support," Elko and other rural counties. Largely credited for Gibbons' 2006 electoral victory over state Sen. Dina Titus, rural counties have always been a strong political force throughout Nevada's history. The Gazette-Journal credits the governor's drop in popularity not only to his recent marital problems, but to a list of offenses to rural voters brought to a head by a recent editorial in the Elko Daily Free Press which broke the story of Gibbon's alleged affair with a Reno woman.
