Noose in Boulder City classroom

A Boulder City family filed a complaint and a teacher could face disciplinary action following the display of a paper cut out noose in a Boulder City classroom.

Endea Dawson, a Boulder City High School junior said she was offended by her fellow English student's drawing of a noose and the fact that her teacher allowed the noose to hang from the ceiling in the classroom. Even after addressing her concerns with the teacher and a dean, Dawson said the cut out remained hanging.

Dawson notified her mother of the incident and Dawson's mother called the dean, but he informed her he was too "busy and short staffed" to tend to the issue. By the time Dawson's mother, Shawnnyce Dawson got to the school, the noose had been taken down and she was informed that it had been destroyed.

Pat Skorkowsky, the Assistant Superintendent, southeast region said that the noose was not, in fact destroyed, but that it had been kept and was being used as evidence in the investigation now underway in Boulder City.
