Dwayne Polee Jr. picks St. John’s

After dragging his recruitment out longer than expected, Westchester (Calif.) High swingman Dwayne Polee Jr. finally made a decision on Thursday, committing to St. John's and first-year coach Steve Lavin.

Polee had also considered Georgia and Oregon, and for quite some time was heavily interested in UNLV.

Polee visited UNLV in late November, watching the Rebels knock off then-No. 16 Louisville, 76-71. Rumors began to swirl around late March and early April that the Los Angeles City Section Player of the Year was close to committing to UNLV, but Lavin — a former UCLA coach with deep West Coast ties — aggressively pursued the high-flying 6-foot-7 forward after landing the job with the Red Storm.

Oddly enough, Lavin will bring St. John's to Pauley Pavilion for a game against UCLA next season in what will be a homecoming for both he and Polee.
