This high school football season in Southern Nevada has featured little suspense.
The teams many have expected to win have done just that, as this picks column is 131-22 on the season after posting a 16-1 record last week.
The great teams are dominating, with defending state champion Bishop Gorman (5A), Silverado (4A) and Moapa Valley (3A) sporting undefeated records as we head into the last week of the regular season Friday.
Silverado hasn’t lost since 2019 and has given up just 23 points in nine games. Moapa Valley, which has been playing football for decades, has won a program-best won 24-straight games.
And nationally ranked Bishop Gorman is so much better than everyone on its schedule the Gaels have outscored opponents 190-0 in winning their last three games.
This week won’t feature much of a challenge for Gorman or Silverado, but Moapa Valley will have its hands full against rival Virgin Valley (7-1) in the annual Hammer Game. And, after weeks of blowouts, Liberty will finally be tested against Desert Pines in the league championship game.
