Many of us can remember when the initial week of high school football games in Las Vegas were played over Labor Day weekend.

Now, with the school schedule seemingly starting earlier each August, we are entering the third week of games.

Like many programs throughout town, the picks column is still hitting its stride. We posted a 14-8 record last week and sit at 20-12 overall for the season.

Let’s build on that:

Legacy at Arbor View

Legacy won’t be able to keep pace with Arbor View’s high-scoring offense. Arbor View 43, Legacy 20

Liberty vs. Mililani (Hawaii)

What a great opportunity for Liberty to make a national splash. Liberty 29, Mililani 28

Coronado vs Kailua (Hawaii)

Coronado might have the best quarterback in town. Coronado 36, Kailua 13

Las Vegas at Rancho

The Wildcats win another Bone Game against Rancho. Las Vegas 33, Rancho 11

Desert Pines at Ayala (Calif.)

Tough spot for Desert Pines against a senior-heavy roster out of California. Ayala 34, Desert Pines 28

Coeur d’Alene (Idaho) vs. Shadow Ridge

Shadow Ridge one of the best programs at the Rocky Mountain Rumble, the Idaho showcase with eight games over two days. Shadow Ridge 36, Coeur d’Alene 19

Spring Valley at Bonanza

Spring Valley again prevails against Bonanza. Spring Valley 20, Bonanza 12

Democracy Prep at Chaparral

Democracy Prep is 2-0 to start the season and full of confidence. Democracy Prep 31, Chaparral 17

Desert Hills (Utah) at Centennial

Anyone have a coin? Centennial 30, Desert Hills 28

Eldorado at Clark

Take me back to when the schools played each other in the 1980s. Clark 13, Eldorado 9

Durango at Sierra Vista

This game won’t be decided until the end. Sierra Vista 19, Durango 18

Desert Oasis at Pinecrest

Desert Oasis improves its record to 3-0. Desert Oasis 41, Pinecrest 0

Losee at Boulder City

Closer than you think. Losee 31, Boulder City 20

Sunrise Mountain at Virgin Valley

Sunrise Mountain will say it’s the premier team on the eastside. I might agree. Sunrise Mountain 33, Virgin Valley 26

Maple Mountain (Utah) at Silverado

This is a step up in competition for Silverado. Maple Mountain 33, Silverado 13

Damonte Ranch at Faith Lutheran

Always take the Las Vegas team against a school from Reno. Faith Lutheran 23, Damonte Ranch 20

Slam Nevada at Dana Hills (Calif.)

Always take the California team at home against the Las Vegas school. Dana Hill 30, Slam Nevada 15

Cimarron-Memorial at Moapa Valley

Almost impossible to win in Overton. Moapa Valley 30, Cimarron-Memorial 11

Wayne Hills (N.J.) at Green Valley

Green Valley has plenty of momentum after a big win in Utah. Green Valley 25, Wayne Hill 16

Western at Del Sol

Schedule makers got this one correct. Western 8, Del Sol 6

Valley at Cheyenne

Another close game is expected here. Cheyenne 18, Valley 13
