Old photo brings Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield together — on Twitter

Tyson-Holyfield

Evander Holyfield, Mike Tyson, a photo taken years before their two heavyweight title fights, including the infamous “bite night” bout.

The value of Twitter is in the hands of the tweeter. In one famous instance, it helped repair a famously marred friendship.

A little more than a week ago, during the end of an interview and photo shoot at Mike Tyson’s home in the Seven Hills luxury home community, Tyson’s wife, Kiki, mentioned a Twitter exchange between her husband and Evander Holyfield.

The back-and-forth started Feb. 22 and centered on an old photo of the two, which was taken at the press conference for Tyson's October 1987 heavyweight title defense against Tyrell Biggs in Atlantic City (a seventh-round knockout by Tyson). Holyfield started the public conversation by sending Tyson a tweet saying, “Hey @MikeTyson, remember this back n the day photo?” And linked to a photo of the two standing together, fists clenched, with Tyson’s arm draped tightly around Holyfield’s neck.

Tyson countered @Holyfield, “No doubt brother. I got that picture on my wall!”

Tyson, who appears at Field of Dreams memorabilia shop at the Forum Shops at Caesars from 1 p.m.-4 p.m. today, opens his one-man show at MGM Grand’s Hollywood Theatre on April 13. The back-story on this photo would be fun to know. Find the exchange on Tyson’s Twitter page here or on Holyfield's Twitter page here.
