Teenage girl killed after rollover accident

Four people were hospitalized and one of them, a 16-year-old girl, died from her injuries after a rollover accident on U.S. 95 at Durango Road, the Nevada Highway Patrol said.

The crash occurred today minutes before 6 a.m., the NHP said.

It appears that a group of teenagers were returning to Las Vegas from Mount Charleston.

The 18-year-old driver apparently lost control of the vehicle, Trooper Kevin Honea said. Witnesses told troopers that the sedan had passed them going at a high rate of speed, but the conditions during the accident are still under investigation, Honea said.

The driver and a 17-year-old front-seat passenger were wearing seatbelts, Honea said. They are hospitalized in serious condition.

The 16-year-old girl who died and a 17-year-old boy were ejected, he said. The boy was airlifted to University Medical Center where he is listed in critical condition.

The other three passengers were taken to the hospital by ambulance, Honea said.
