June ties for sixth hottest month on record

Temperatures for the month of June in the Las Vegas Valley tied with 2000 as the sixth hottest June on record, the National Weather Service said today.

Since 2000, weather service forecaster Christopher Stachelski said, every June except 2005 has been among the warmest on record in Las Vegas.

The average temperatures for June at McCarran International Airport was 88.7 degrees.

The hottest June was 2006 at 90.5, second was 1994 with an average of 90.3, third is 2007 with an average of 89.5 and fourth was 1974 with an average of 89.1 and fifth 1981 with an average of 88.8.

July is getting off to a hot start — today's high is expected to be 109 degrees.
