Only about 6 percent have voted in Clark County after first week of early voting

The totals: 34,041 have voted early in Southern Nevada and 10,550 by mail for a total of 44,591 -- that's almost 6.5 percent of registered voters. Just under 5,000 voted at the polls on Friday.

The partisan totals:

Republicans: 15,663 early plus 4,873 by mail for a total of 20,536 voters, or just under 9 percent of registered GOP voters.

Democrats:15,493 early plus 4,712 by mail for a total of 20,205 voters, or 6.3 percent of registered Democrats

Republicans are now slightly ahead of the Democrats in raw early voting totals despite the more than 100,000-voter deficit in Clark County -- a measure of just how little there is for Democrats to turn out for in this election. The voting will need quite a bump in the second week and on Election Day to get to 27 percent overall turnout of the 2006 primary. (Early and mail was 15 percent.)

Early voting in Washoe County continues to be stronger than usual. The totals:

6,560 Republicans, or 7.8 percent

4,733 Democrats, or 5.5 percent

Registration in Washoe is about even.
