UNLV women’s soccer earns a tie and a victory to open the 2008 season

The UNLV women's soccer team ended a two-game weekend swing in California Sunday with a 2-0 win over UC-Irvine. That came on the heels of Friday night's 1-1 double-overtime tie at Loyola Marymount.

Friday, UNLV's Ashleigh Shoughro scored from 20 yards out in the 17th minute off an assist from Amanda Forrester. Marymount's Lacey Bartels tied it up early in the second half, and that would be it in terms of scoring.

The Rebels' offense opened up a bit Sunday, as Shoughro scored one of UNLV's two goals in the game's final 20 minutes to secure the victory over the Anteaters. The second goal was tallied by Haley Partridge, who scored in the 85th minute on a breakaway down the middle of the field.

UNLV's next action comes this weekend, as they'll play host to the UNLV Nike Classic at Peter Johann Field. Friday's 1 p.m. game will pit the Rebels against in-state rival Nevada-Reno. Saturday, the Rebels take on Pacific at 1 p.m.
