Ex-Palo Verde ace Shoughro gives UNLV a 1-0 win

Sophomore forward Ashleigh Shoughro is enjoying playing soccer for her hometown college.

After a season at the University of San Diego, the former Palo Verde High star returned to Las Vegas to play for UNLV and the move has already benefited her and the Rebels.

She scored the lone goal of the game Friday afternoon, in the 80th minute, in a 1-0 victory over Farleigh Dickinson in the New Mexico Nike Classic in Albuquerque.

Knights goalie Megan MacKellar attempted to clear a kick, but Shoughro intercepted it and found the back of the net from 15 yards out.

It was her fourth goal of the season and second game winner, which boosted UNLV’s record to 5-1-1.

UNLV goalie Alicia Lugo made six saves for her fourth clean sheet of the season.

The Rebels finish the Classic on Sunday Morning against 24th-ranked Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
