Clayton named MWC Co-Offensive Player of the Week

UNLV sophomore quarterback Omar Clayton, who threw for 235 yards and a trio of touchdowns, then ran for another in Saturday's 34-31 overtime win against Iowa State, was named the Mountain West Conference's Co-Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.

He shares the honors with Utah tailback Darrell Mack.

Clayton's 148.62 passer rating ranks 30th in the nation after four weeks, and he's one of just five quarterbacks in the FBS ranks to have thrown at least 100 pass attempts this season without an interception. His 139 consecutive throws without an interception is a school record which he continues to build upon each week.

He's thrown nine touchdown passes so far, making him the first UNLV quarterback to do so since Kurt Nantkes finished with 12 in 2003. Coincidentally, that was the last time UNLV won more than two games in a season before this current campaign, which has the Rebels at 3-1 with rival Nevada-Reno on the horizon this Saturday at 7 p.m. at Sam Boyd Stadium.

Taking defensive honors this week is BYU linebacker David Nixon, while the special teams nod goes to BYU punter C.J. Santiago.
