Men’s golf wins tourney in Albuquerque

The UNLV golf team won the William H. Tucker Invitational by 11 shots Saturday in Albuquerque, N.M.

Junior Eddie Olson shot a final-round 2-under 70 to tie Colorado’s Derek Tolan for individual honors at 5-under 211 for the tournament.

Freshman Derek Ernst (2-under 214), senior Seung-su Han (216) and junior Brett Kanda (217) led the charge for the Rebels.

UNLV, ranked 21st in the country, trailed New Mexico by five strokes entering Saturday’s final round, then the Rebels drilled the Lobos by 16 strokes to win the tournament.

New Mexico finished a shot under par, Pepperdine was even, Colorado was four over and Ohio State ended seven shots over par.

UNLV plays at the Jerry Pate Invitational in Birmingham, Ala., in two weeks.
