Rebel LB Beauchamp named MWC Defensive Player of the Week

It was a number that was easily lost in the mix of UNLV's 49-27 loss Saturday night at Sam Boyd Stadium to UNR, but Jason Beauchamp's 21 tackles fell just one shy of tying a nine-year-old school record.

Add in a fumble recovery, 2.5 tackles for loss and a sack, and it was more than enough to earn the junior line backer Defensive Player of the Week honors from the Mountain West Conference.

It marked the third straight week a Rebel was given a nod from the league. Malo Taumua shared the special teams honor on Sept. 15 after blocking a key overtime field goal attempt to secure UNLV's 23-20 overtime win at Arizona State. Omar Clayton took the honors a week ago after UNLV's second straight overtime victory, this time at home over Iowa State.

Beauchamp leads the Mountain West in tackles per game this season, with an average of 10.6. That number ranks 13th in the nation.

San Diego State quarterback Ryan Lindley was the league's Offensive Player of the Week, while special teams mention was shared by Utah punter/kicker Louie Sakoda and New Mexico kicker James Aho.
