Actually, the news that UNLV had broken into the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 Poll for the very first time wasn't quite announced that way. But the Rebels are certainly glad to be tied at No. 23 with Georgia after opening the season with a 3-1-1 record at the Sportco Spring Kick-Off Classic last weekend on their home diamond at Eller Media Stadium.
UNLV caught the eye of the voters with two victories over nationally ranked teams -- a 7-4 win against then No. 11 Washington and a 2-1 decision of Arizona State, which was ranked No. 3 in the ESPN poll.
The Rebels return to action Friday in the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic here against Illinois and Bradley at 6 and 8:15 p.m. UNLV also will play Cal State Northridge at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Cal State Bakersfield at 3:45 Saturday and Kansas at 11:15 a.m. Sunday.
