UNLV beats Wyoming, 73-65

UNLV stayed in front of New Mexico for second place in the Mountain West Conference with a 73-65 victory at Wyoming on Saturday afternoon.

The Rebels, 20-6 overall and 9-3 in league, had control for most of the game against the Cowboys (10-16, 3-10) as junior guard Wink Adams led the way with 23 points and 9 rebounds.

New Mexico (22-6, 9-4) defeated Utah earlier in the day but held second place in the conference for only a few hours. BYU (21-5, 10-1) is on top of the Mountain West.

Moreover, the Rebels improved to 10-1 in games after defeats over the past two seasons. Last weekend, UNLV was belted by BYU by 26 points in Provo.

The strong play by Adams helped offset an off game by senior point guard Curtis Terry, who had 9 points and 6 boards but was a bit hampered by a two-day-old groin injury.

UNLV, which has won eight of its past 10 games, plays host to San Diego State on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Thomas & Mack Center.
