At Hilton, the Wranglers are next to the Red Wings on the big board

The latest sign of the Las Vegas Wranglers’ success is that the Hilton race and sports book has posted odds on their games, for the first time, with Cincinnati in the ECHL Kelly Cup Finals.

That’s out of respect for a fantastic season, according to Hilton book director Jay Kornegay.

“I think they deserve to be on the board,” Kornegay said. “They’re having such a terrific year, and it’s such a great thing to see a Las Vegas team have success where a lot have failed.

“It’s more to honor their success, and to honor the dedicated and loyal fans they’ve built in Las Vegas.”

The Wranglers and Cyclones split the first two games of the series over the weekend in Cincinnati, and Game 3 is Thursday at 7:05 p.m. at the Orleans Arena.

Both teams are -105, meaning you must wager $105 to win $100. Kornegay set the goals total at 5, with the over a -120 favorite.

Las Vegas lost Game 1, 4-2, and won Game 2, 1-0. Both were on the Hilton’s big board, and Kornegay said they received scant action.

Games 4 and 5, respectively, will be in Las Vegas on Friday and Monday nights. If necessary, Games 6 and 7 will be played in Cincinnati on June 5 and 7, respectively.

The ECHL is the Double-A level of pro hockey, a feeder system to the Triple-A American Hockey League. The next level is the NHL.

One of those Las Vegas hockey fans is Kornegay’s 13-year-old son Nick. The pair has attended half a dozen games this season, and Nick’s favorite Wrangler is hard-hitting right wing Adam Cracknell.

“I wouldn’t want to have a locker next to his,” said Jay Kornegay, laughing.
