The fifth season of the annual Play of the Day betting competition between the Sun’s sports staff is now under way, effective July 1.
Bankrolls start at $10,000 for each of the four participants, with the objective to increase it as much as possible over the next year. The minimum daily wager is $300, with a $200 penalty assessed for failing to place a bet on an assigned day.
Past winners are Case Keefer in 2017-2018, Ray Brewer in 2016-2017 and 2015-2016, and Taylor Bern in 2014-2015.
Atlanta Braves minus-1.5 runs at plus-120 vs. Miami Marlins, $500 to win $600: The Braves enter on a three-game winning streak, including the past two games against Miami. They have beaten the Marlins, 9-1 and 6-1.
This is a classic late-season game between a team fighting for the playoffs and a team auditioning younger players for future seasons.
The Braves are 32-24 in home games; Florida has just 20 wins on the road.
Miami starter Trevor Richards has a respectable 3.98 earned run average and projects to be a serviceable piece of the Marlins rotation moving forward. But they have lost three of his last four starts.
