The fifth season of the annual Play of the Day betting competition between the Sun’s sports staff is now under way, effective July 1.
Bankrolls start at $10,000 for each of the four participants, with the objective to increase it as much as possible over the next year. The minimum daily wager is $300, with a $200 penalty assessed for failing to place a bet on an assigned day.
Past winners are Case Keefer in 2017-2018, Ray Brewer in 2016-2017 and 2015-2016, and Taylor Bern in 2014-2015.
Denver Broncos plus-4 vs. Kansas City Chiefs, $990 to win $900
First-year quarterback starter Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs have been one of the best teams in the NFL over the initial three weeks of the season. Kansas City ranks first in the league in scoring at 39.3 points per game and its offense appears to have many weapons, such as running back Kareem Hunt and wide receiver Tyreek Hill.
But this is a bad spot for the Chiefs and its inexperienced signal caller.
Denver has one of the best home-field advantages in football. It should be a wild atmosphere for Monday Night Football, especially considering the Chiefs are a rival, and many Broncos’ supporters have been tailgating all day.
Case Keenum has been underwhelming as the Denver quarterback with three touchdowns and four interceptions. But he has twice rallied the Broncos from behind in the fourth quarter for wins. Except tonight to follow a similar script.
