Texas Station Gambling Hall & Casino Summer Blood Drive Helps Save Lives

Published on Wed, Aug 6, 2014 (9:40 a.m.)

Las Vegas (Aug. 6, 2014) - Lifeguards aren’t the only ones who will be saving lives this summer, the residents of Las Vegas will too, by donating blood. Unfortunately, during the hot months of the year donors often are in short supply. Many are on vacation or out having fun in the sun.

“It’s no secret,” said Paul Milakeve, donor recruitment manager with United Blood Services. “People simply are much busier than they are at other times of the year. Although donors might have other things to do, patients continue to need blood.”

Blood can be stored for only 42 days. Eligible donors are encouraged to give blood regularly, three or four times a year, to keep hospital shelves stocked with lifesaving blood.

Texas Station’s upcoming drive is from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Friday, August 8 at 2101 Texas Star Lane in North Las Vegas. All volunteer blood donors at this blood drive must be 21 years of age or older.

Donors will receive one free voucher to the Feast Buffet and two free admissions to see the Tina Turner and Stevie Wonder tribute concert on Aug. 30. All donors throughout the month of August will also receive a voucher for two free admissions to see Gordie Brown at the Golden Nugget, available for use until Jan. 1, 2015 and one voucher for a buy-one-get-one-free all-day ride passes to the Adventuredome at Circus Circus.

People unable to donate are encouraged to recruit those who can. Anyone who can’t make it to the blood drive is welcome to visit United Blood Services anytime during the year. To schedule an appointment or to donate blood, call 702-228-4483 or visit one of United Blood Services’ three Southern Nevada locations:

• 6930 W. Charleston Blvd., Las Vegas, NV
• 601 Whitney Ranch Drive, Suite 20, Henderson, NV
• 4950 W. Craig Road, Las Vegas, NV

Make your appointment to give blood at or by calling 877-827-4376. With each donation, donors receive a free total cholesterol test and earn points in United Blood Services’ Hero in Me rewards program.

Volunteer blood donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be in good health. Additional height and weight requirements apply to donors 22 and younger. For more information, visit
