Senior Activities

Henderson has lots of activities for adults to enjoy, mostly in the form of casinos and gambling, but there are also other options for the over-50 crowd.

The Henderson Senior Center is located at 27 East Texas Avenue (at Army Street) and offers a variety of features like an activity room, billiards room, computer room, craft room, library and a TV room. They also offer services from meals to volunteer opportunities.

The Black Mountain Nutrition Program provides lunch daily from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. and Meals on Wheels delivers meals to homebound seniors. The Henderson Auxiliary provides weekend meals from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. on Saturday and from noon until 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.

The center also has volunteer opportunities through the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, where seniors can teach classes and organize programs. Seniors can learn more about this program by visiting Senior Center or going to the orientations that are help every second Tuesday of the month at 10:30 a.m.

Senior Sports

There are several ways to stay active in Henderson’s senior community with their long list of senior sports teams available for joining. There are also several competitive games in which seniors can participate: the Henderson Senior Games, Nevada Senior Olympic Games, Summer National Senior Games and Huntsman World Senior Games.

The Henderson Senior Games take place from March to April and include everything from bowling to track and field.

The Nevada Senior Olympics are a little more serious, as senior athletes have the opportunity to qualify for the biannual National Senior Games in sports like dance, horseshoes, pool 9-ball, tennis and a long list of other sports.
