Hacienda implosion to be aired by Fox Network

The New Year's Eve implosion of the Hacienda hotel-casino will be the subject of a 90-minute live telecast on the Fox Network, according to Circus Circus Enterprises President Glenn Schaeffer.

Circus plans to start construction of an upscale, 4,000-room, $800-million resort on the site Feb. 15. While only hints of the theme will be revealed during the telecast, Schaeffer said the new hotel will be as elegant as any in Las Vegas.

The resort will include a stand-alone, 400-room Four Seasons-Regent hotel.

Surf's up

David Herschmann looks like he's misplaced his surfboard.

But the youthful, sunbleached founder of Venice, Calif.,-based Virtual Vegas, a World Wide Web game site, may have found a lot of business at the American Gaming Summit.

Herschmann wowed more than 50 casino executives with his upbeat description of the powerful Internet marketing tool at an AGS seminar. He was swamped after the session by several wanting more information.

While it's not set up for money-based Internet gambling, Virtual Vegas allows players to accumulate points playing different casino games. Herschmann and his partners develop a data base casino companies can use to identify potential new customers.
