Hits from film, stage in concert

The Kreiders, faculty members of the UNLV music department, will perform selections from five of the best-loved Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals, "The Sound of Music, "The King and I," "Carousel," "Oklahoma!" and "South Pacific."

The program, conducted by Music Director Mark Laycock, also includes music from such classic film scores as "Gone With the Wind," "The Ten Commandments" and "Raiders of the Lost Ark."

Paul Kreider, a baritone, is chairman of the Department of Music at UNLV, where he serves as conductor/producer of the UNLV Opera Theater. He has appeared in PBS telecasts of Lyric Opera of Chicago productions of "Madame Butterfly" and "Anthony and Cleopatra."

Rebecca Kreider, a soprano, has performed leading roles with Washington Opera at Kennedy Center, Opera Theater of St. Louis, and the Palm Beach Opera Company. She was the winner of the Palm Beach Opera Competition in 1989.

Sponsored by the Cultural Affairs Division of the City of Henderson, this concert is the second in the "Starry Summer Nights" series of free outdoor programs. Concertgoers are invited to bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnic dinners.
