Former Rebel Sam Smith arrested on drug charge

"Sudden" Sam Smith, a former UNLV basketball star, was arrested and charged with two counts of selling crack cocaine.

He was booked Wednesday into the Clark County Detention Center and released the same day on his own recognizance, a jail spokeswoman said.

Smith was arrested on a warrant by the Southern Nevada Gang Task Force, comprised of investigators from the federal Drug Enforcement Agency and the Metro and Henderson police departments.

Keith Baudoin, assistant special agent in charge of the Las Vegas DEA office, declined to comment on the circumstances surrounding the arrest. The U.S. attorney's office also declined to comment.

Smith, who graduated from Clark High School in 1973, played at UNLV during the 1975-76 and 1976-77 seasons.

He is the father of UNLV guard Damian Smith.
