Columnist Elizabeth Foyt: New baby prompts celebration and spreads joy to all

LYNN SHOEN'S JOY in becoming a mother to Cameron Scott Christopher Shoen is evident to all and a delight to behold. Furthermore, Lynn's early attempts at career guidance for her son, decidedly leaning to the law, were given a boost when the baby behaved angelically during an early morning court appearance on behalf of a client. Lynn, a former Clark County district attorney and clerk for Nevada's Supreme Court, has been in solo practice in Southern Nevada for more than 15 years. She is recognized for pioneering efforts on women's legal issues and using her expertise in a number of mentoring situations.

Sharing the happiness of this special time were friends Nancy Allf, Gloria Sturman, Elizabeth Foley and Kathleen Faustian, who recently hosted a tea in honor of Lynn and her infant son. A most elegant occasion, the afternoon gathering at Canyon Gate Country Club was held in the private dining rooms with its vistas of the golf course and the nearby waterfalls, ponds and streams. Introduced to many as the miracle worker who made the adoption of baby Cameron possible was attorney Barbara Johnston, who was seen with Kristine Amerine, Jayme Phillips, Carolyn Ellsworth, Judge Debbie Lippis and Elana Hatch.

A luscious spread of temptations, served by Canyon Gate staff, included a selection of tea sandwiches, tiny cream puffs made in swan shapes, fruits, cookies and other divine finger foods. Judge Valorie Vega, Geri Schwartzer, Ann Bersi, Sharon Immerman, Nadine Morton and Janet Trost were just part of the casual group who congregated in the serving area to select their favorites.

Guests, many of them Lynn's fellow attorneys, also reflected her numerous chartible endeavors, including Laura Cyr, Mary Hausch and Kathleen England who shared her years of service with Planned Parenthood of Southern Nevada. Present as well were Sandy Peltyn, Barbara Robinson and others who have worked closely with Lynn on Clark County's Pro Bono Project's "Diamond and Rubies" gala in recent years.

Stealing the show and drawing every eye to his precious self was baby Cameron who came to conquer the hearts of all the guests. A picture-perfect baby, he favors his mom in coloring and sweet disposition. Taking a lively interest in their new cousin were Alexa and Michelle Shoen who accompanied their moms Nora and Roxanne Shoen to the tea. Lookingon with a fond eye as well was Juanita Allf, one of a handful of "honorary aunts," including Sharon Garrett, Pandora Rider, Melissa Harris and Judge Fran Fine.

Lingering on in the pleasant mood of the afternoon to enjoy the rarely offered chance to relax with friends and colleagues were Judith Braecklin and Lisa Zalewski, joined by Briten Stewart, Lin Ng, Beverly Salhanick, Susan Baucum and Michelle Morton.
