INCOME TAX WORKSHOP -- Individuals needing assistance filing their 1996 income tax returns can attend a special workshop at the City of Las Vegas Baker Park Community School, 1050 E. St. Louis Ave. Local certified public accountant Carl Walters will perform this service and answer any questions you may have at the seminar taking place from 8 a.m. to noon March 31. SENIOR SOCIAL -- The City of Las Vegas Baker Park Community School, 1050 E. St. Louis Ave., hosts a senior citizens social April 1. Those attending the 2 p.m. affair are urged to share their favorite Easter traditions and family photos with the group. The $4 fee will go to cover the cost of refreshments. ROCK CLIMBING FIELD TRIP -- The City of Las Vegas Baker Park Community School, 1050 E. St. Louis Ave., will sponsor a field trip to Rocks & Ropes on April 12. Meeting time is 10 a.m. at the school, with return set for 2 p.m. Anyone 6 or older may attend. The $10 registration fee must be paid by April 10, and includes climbing time, harness, belay gear and shoes. Belaying is limited to those 12 or older. Call 733-6599 for details.

PARKING LOT SALE -- A giant parking lot sale is on line for April 12 at the City of Las Vegas Baker Park Community School, 1050 E. St. Louis Ave. Sale hours are from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Booths can be reserved through April 10 at a cost of $20, which includes a table and two chairs. Individuals, families, youth organizations, sports teams, church groups or any other type of organization are welcome to participate. So clean out your garages, storage rooms and closets, and join the Baker Park Community School for the day, or just drop by and bargain hunt. To reserve your space, call 733-6599.

VALLEY HOSPITAL FIELD TRIP -- The City of Las Vegas Baker Park Community School, 1050 E. St. Louis Ave., will sponsor a free field trip to Valley Hospital on April 28. Departure is set for 9:30 a.m. with return scheduled for 12:30 p.m. The tour, designed for ages 6-15, will include the emergency room, the X-ray room and the heliport which serves the Flight for Life helicopter. The aircraft will be open for viewing if it is available. All participants are to furnish a sack lunch for a picnic in the park on the return trip. Reservations will be accepted through April 26, and can be made by calling 733-6599.

FLOWER ARRANGING -- Learn how to design spring flower arrangements using artificial flowers at an upcoming workshop at the City of Las Vegas Baker Park Community School, 1050 E. St. Louis Ave. The two-hour seminar takes place at 7 p.m. April 2. The cost is $5 and registration takes place March 17-31. The course is designed for ages 17 and older. Call 733-6599 for details.

NATURE CLASS -- Parents are encouraged to register their children for the new nature study program at the City of Las Vegas Baker Park Community School, 1050 E. St. Louis Ave. "Nature Station" begins April 4 with two sessions available; ages 2-3 have class from 1:30-2:30 p.m., while ages 4-5 will study from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Registration for the eight-week course is $25, and will run March 17-April 3. The class, held mainly outdoors, will focus on the discovery of the wonder of nature through the study of rocks, shells, sand, plants, air, shadows and water. Call 733-6599.

YOUTH FOOD PROGRAM -- The City of Las Vegas Department of Parks and Leisure Activities has been chosen as a participation agency for the year-round youth food program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The selected site is the Rafael Rivera Community Center, 2900 E. Stewart Ave., where breakfast will be served at 9 a.m., with lunch being served at noon. Meals will be served weekdays and coincide with the Clark County School District calendar. Meals are provided at no charge to all children 18 and younger. Those 5 and younger must be accompanied by an adult or older sibling.

INCOME TAX PREPARATION -- Free income tax preparation is once again available to seniors 55 and older at the City of Las Vegas Derfelt Senior Center, 3333 W. Washington Ave. Representatives from the American Association of Retired Persons will be at the Derfelt Center weekdays, except Wednesdays, through April 15, providing assistance with 1996 tax returns. This service is available from 9 a.m. to noon, by appointment only. Call 229-6601 to schedule your appointment.

RACQUETBALL LEAGUES -- Registration for spring racquetball leagues at the City of Las Vegas Chuck Minker Sports Complex, 275 N. Mojave Road, has been announced. Two leagues will be available; sign-ups for the Monday night league will be accepted March 24-April 18, while the Wednesday night league conducts registration March 19-April 9. The cost will be $5 for program members and $20 for nonmembers. The Monday night league begins play April 21, and the Wednesday night league sees action beginning April 16. SPRINGTIME ADVENTURES -- The City of Las Vegas Baker Park Community School, 1050 E. St. Louis Ave., will offer a series of outdoor adventures during April: Horseback riding lessons and a trail ride take place April 3 at the Sagebrush Ranch; a one-day hike for ages 7-18 to the Willow Springs-Seven Falls Canyon in the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area on April 7; a Red Rock hike for adults and active senior citizens follows on April 21.
