Committee picks top three companies to run Elko hospital

The panel eliminated Universal Health Care, New American Healthcare and health care giant Columbia/HCA after an informal polling, the Elko Daily Free Press reported.

Bob Heguy of Kafoury-Armstrong & Co. provided an analysis of what the county would receive from each corporation and told the committee and a handful of people in the audience that most of the proposals were very close.

Heguy's figures showed the county would gain $20.6 million from Principal, $20.9 million from Community and $18.1 million from Lutheran.

Once the field was winnowed down, Chairwoman Dorothy Gallagher said the panel should learn all it could about the finalists and be prepared to interrogate them at a daylong meeting May 29.

After that session, the final selection will be left to the county commissioner, which plans to hire experts to help with the final financial analysis.

The selection has been scheduled for late June, after residents vote on a sales tax increase to fund a new $30 million hospital.
