Indian art show to be in Henderson

Admission is free. Times are 3-10 p.m. Friday, noon-9 p.m. Saturday, noon-7 p.m. Sunday and noon-8 p.m. Monday.

Silver and goldsmiths Arvid Anderson and Brian Clark will appear at the show.

Indian crafts from the Southwest will be featured from periods ranging from prehistoric to the Spanish Conquest to contemporary, including the Anaszai, Hohokam and Sinagua cultures. There will be pottery, tools, weapons and other artifacts.

There will be more than 3,000 pieces of jewelry by award-winning silver and goldsmiths Carl Clark, Sammy and Ester Guardian, Donnie Supplee, Dennis and Nancy Edaakie, Tom Jim and the Quandelacy family.

Other items will include:

* Kachinas carved by Hopi and Navajo artists, which are miniature reproductions of figures seen in ceremonial dances. They are carved from cottonwood root. There will be nearly 100 Hopi kachina carvings by such artisans as Malcom Fred, Henry Naha, Coolidge Roy Jr., Neil David Sr., Hubert Bert, Dan Bert, Lowell and Talashoma.

* American Indian pottery, designed, formed, decorated and fired in the traditional method. Works include those of Maria Martinez of the San Ildefonso Pueblo, the Nampayo family, the Frog Woman family, Feather Woman, Dena Suina, Stella Teller, Rosemary Appleblossom Lonewolf, Geri Naranjo, Joseph Lonewolf and Dalwepi.

* Navajo sandpaintings by such artisans as Eugene Baatsoslanii Joe.

* Navajo rugs from Arizona and New Mexico dating to the 1800s.

Americana Indian Shows, sponsor of the show, offers free verbal identification of Southwestern items. There is a small fee for written insurance appraisals. There also will be two silver and goldsmiths to repair jewelry.
