MURDER SUSPECT -- Metro Police arrested 19-year-old Brendan James Nasby Tuesday at his North Las Vegas residence. Homicide Lt. Wayne Petersen said Nasby was arrested in connection with the July 17 shooting death of Michael Lamont Beasley, 18, of Las Vegas. Beasley's body was found near Lone Mountain by an early-morning jogger. Nasby was booked into the Clark County Detention center on a charge of murder with a deadly weapon.

SUSPECT MISSING -- A man under house arrest while awaiting trial on multiple counts of lewdness and sexual assault with a minor under 14 is missing. Metro Police Lt. Tom Monahan, supervisor of the sexual assault and abuse section, said Larry Joe Mason, 31, is believed to be trying to leave the state. Monahan was discovered missing from his residence after an electronic alarm sounded and police investigated. He is described as a white male, 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighing 165 pounds.

SCHOOL FAIRS -- Back-to-school fairs designed to help parents and students prepare for the 1998-1999 school year will be held at three local malls during August. The fairs will offer information on zoning, transportation, after school programs and more. The Clark County Health District will offer free immunizations at the fairs. The Back to School Fairs are scheduled for Aug. 8 at the Belz Outlet Mall, Aug. 15 and 16 at the Boulevard Mall and Aug. 22 and 23 at the Meadows Mall. Booths at all three fairs will be open during regular mall hours.

SPORTS PHYSICALS -- University Medical Center's Community College of Southern Nevada Quick Care is offering free sports physicals for children under 18. The physicals will be held Aug. 8 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Appointments must be made ahead of time by calling 383-6290. CCSN's Quick Care is located at 6375 W. Charleston Blvd.

RESOURCES EXPLAINED -- A fair providing information on the many community resources in Southern Nevada will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 29 at AutoNationUSA. More than 100 participating organizations will have displays and information tables for all ages on topics including educational, family, financial, government, health care, recreational and travel resources. There will also be an outdoor display of boats, recreational vehicles and trailers. The Accessibility Compliance Team/USA, AutoNationUSA and the greater Henderson Kiwanis Club will sponsor the free event. AutoNationUSA is located at 1000 Warm Springs Road in Henderson at the corner of Gibson Road and Interstate 515 at the Sunset exit.

FIRE RESTRICTIONS -- The U.S. Forest Service is imposing fire restrictions on visitors to the Spring Mountain National Recreation Area. The specific restrictions are posted on large, yellow and red signs throughout the forested area. The restrictions were imposed because conditions are ripe for wildfires. "Under these conditions, a wildfire can be devastating to public safety, the ecosystem, and property," District Ranger Tom Kuekes said.
