Las Vegas 1 to show Strohmeyer trial

Prime Cable announced Wednesday its plans to provide live coverage of the Jeremy Strohmeyer murder trial on Las Vegas One, the 24 hour news station, on cable channels one and 39.

The 19-year-old Long Beach, Calif. native is accused of killing 7-year-old Sherrice Iverson of Los Angeles in a restroom at a Primm casino May 25, 1997.

"We plan to be the only outlet that has live gavel-to-gavel coverage of the trial," said Harris Bass, vice president and general manager of Prime Cable. "We've reviewed the court's plan and we envision having seven hours of live coverage daily with commentary from the Las Vegas One and the Sun."

The courts schedule calls for five hour and a half sessions Monday through Friday beginning at 9 a.m. and ending at 7:30 p.m.

Jury selection for the trial is scheduled to begin on August 17, and Bass said he sees Las Vegas One coverage beginning around August 25.

If the trial goes on for an extended period of time Las Vegas One will continue its coverage even if the trial lasts months, Bass said.

"I think the trial itself has a great deal of public interest because of the publicity it has received and the involvement of a casino," Bass said. "We are pleased to let everyone in Las Vegas know the facts of the trial."

Court TV may also broadcast the trial live after District Judge Myron Leavitt ordered Monday that the national program can air the proceedings.
