Metro officer facing drunken driving rap

A nine-year Metro Police veteran remains on paid administrative leave for allegedly driving drunk, rear-ending a parked car and then leaving the accident scene.

Beverly Wagner is scheduled to appear Sept. 29 in Municipal Court on accusations of causing an accident while under the influence of alcohol and failing to stop after Tuesday morning's accident.

Laboratory results of a blood test Wagner took at City Jail are pending.

Metro, meanwhile, is conducting an internal investigation into the traffic accident that Wagner, 37, has been accused of causing while driving southbound on Torrey Pines Drive near West Vegas Drive in a green 1993 Isuzu truck.

According to the accident report, Wagner pulled up behind the victim's blue 1998 Toyota "screeching her tires to a stop" before her truck's front bumper hit the Toyota's rear bumper.

Wagner allegedly pulled up alongside the Toyota and got out, saying what the report disclosed only as "a few things to the driver" and left the scene.

The victims relayed the Isuzu's license plate number to police when they called for help. Officers traced the car's plate and registration to Wagner's home address, arresting her there a short time later.

She was booked into city jail and released at 11:29 a.m. that day upon her own recognizance to appear in court.

Tuesday's accident was the second time in fewer than four months that Wagner's name has surfaced in alcohol-related incidents.

Wagner was disciplined by the department this spring after an internal investigation determined that she was drunk when she arrived for work April 21. A breath-test analyzer showed that Wagner had a blood-alcohol level of 0.10 percent -- the same amount considered the legal limit for drivers in Nevada.
