BMW shuts down motorcyle shop in Reno

BMW Reno, located in Sparks, closed a week ago.

"The ownership of this franchise is in question," said Martha McKinley, spokeswoman for BMW North America.

"We felt we needed to protect our properties. So we went in and took all our motorcycles. We are holding them for outstanding balances owed," she said.

There are "a lot of unanswered questions," McKinley said.

Jan Cutler, co-owner of BMW Reno, which opened in December 1986, had little to say.

"'We will inform our customers soon," Cutler told the Reno Gazette-Journal. "We're working on a letter that we will send out. We'll explain why we closed."
