Construction crews take a break this weekend

Nevada Department of Transportation spokesman Scott Magruder says paving crews won't resume work until Monday. That will help move heavy weekend traffic anticipated for the Hot August Nights celebration in Reno.

Magruder added traffic congestion is bad because the paving project is in a populated area with traffic lights. He said NDOT will re-evaluate the way traffic has been restricted and may reduce construction on Kingsbury Grade to provide a nearly construction-free alternate route.

The paving project on U.S. 50, from the Douglas County-Carson City line to Stateline, is about half done. The job should be done by late September or early October.
